Description

Wedge Island is located north of Lancelin and south of Cervantes on the Western Australian coast. The settlement is home to approximately 350 beach shacks which were built on Crown land at Wedge Island and Grey settlements between the 1950s and 1980s by fishermen and pastoralists. It offers a variety of activities including four wheel driving, sand boarding, surfing, kitesurfing, fishing, swimming and snorkeling. A major attraction about Wedge Island is the sand dunes surrounding it. It is dog friendly south but north pass the dunes is no dogs allowed, and is enforced by rangers, it also has 1080 bait warnings. The township is accessible to all vehicles, but 4WD only for the common beach access's and outside of township dune tracks No camping or overnight parking encouraged by DePaW. There is a first aid post provided, and run by the shack owners. There is a seasonal ice and bait supply shed provided by a local shack owner. Sketchy phone coverage in town, best places is on the point near Island, and on top of the North sand dune. No other public facilities in the area. The rubbish tip is payed for by the shack owners at a cost of $1000 per year. Shack owners pay rates of $2000 per year for less than 6 months use, own power, water, gas, and sewerage supplied. Indemnity insurance at $1000 per year is also a requirement of owning a shack
