Scrap Wire Sculptures
Point of InterestDescription
A collection of wire sculptures created by retired farmer Jim Watson.
Scrap wire is everywhere in country districts, in rusted heaps, filling old dams and caught under trees, useless and unloved.
His first creation was a tree using of all things, the dangerous and difficult barbed wire. He then made his almost life size 'Farmer at Work's using a sledge hammer to put an iron peg in so that he could hitch up the life sized horse that he was soon to create.
This was followed by a dog, a kangaroo and more trees.
In his 80s, as a grande finale, Jim created his depiction of the Australian Coat of Arms in wire.
Jim has spent the majority of his life in the Nyad District. His parents were among the early settlers during the years 1900-1920.
The sculptures are adjacent to the park.
