A Port Fairy aquaculture operation founded by abalone divers in 1996, Southern Ocean Mariculture was one of Australia's first abalone farms. The farm is known for its Ocean Road Abalone brand, celebrating 10 years in 2024.
SOM's team of dedicated aquaculturists (many from nearby Deakin University's Marine Science program) produces 120+ tonnes of premium tiger abalone annually, in a range of sizes, sold live or processed locally into ready-to-eat canned and vacuum-packed abalone.
