PLEASE NOTE: NO FIRES. NO CUTTING OR REMOVAL OF WOOD. THIS IS A CONSERVATION RESERVE. 18 April to 31 July 2024- a mob of 60 ewes (sheep) are grazing on the reserve. The area where you camp is not fenced, so if you don't like sheep around your camp site, best you give us a miss until after 31 July. The Hawkesdale Racecourse Reserve is managed by a volunteer committee of local residents. The Reserve is 60ha and preserves an area of highly significant volcanic plains grasslands, including some endangered flora and fauna. Camping sites are located in the area immediately surrounding the clubhouse and toilet block. No camping or driving on the golf course. Social golf has returned in 2023, after the Hawkesdale Golf Club went into recess in 2003. A fee of $5 applies per person for use of the nine fairways. Golf clubs can be hired by prior arrangement, contact a volunteer on the mobile numbers provided. The campground offers toilets and is pet friendly. Dogs and cats must be restrained at all times. Any pets threatening native birds and animals or the grazing livestock will be banned. A donation is requested per night. A three day stay limit applies. Sheep are grazed on parts of the reserve throughout the year, so visitors are asked to shut the gate. It is accessible to RVs, camper trailers, caravans and big rigs. Camping in tents is allowed. There is no potable water on the reserve, all water is bore water and not suitable for human consumption. There are no rubbish bins, please take your rubbish away. STRICTLY NO FIRES at any time. Hawkesdale village has a Post Office with some general supplies available.
