Description

The magical underground world of Hastings Caves will open your eyes to what lies beneath the picturesque Tasmanian landscape. The mystery of these Tasmanian caves is revealed beneath a dense green forest of thermal springs and ferny glades. The spacious dolomite cave system is a labyrinth of chambers, richly decorated and cleverly lit to highlight ancient subterranean formations. Back on the surface, you can relax in the swimming pool, which is fed by mineral-rich thermal springs. This is one of only two places in Tasmania where thermal springs exist. Experience thermal pool water that remains 28 degrees, year-round. Explore the Hastings Caves State Reserve further on the easy walking trails, pack a picnic, or enjoy a barbecue with friends and family in the peaceful forest surrounds. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the native wildlife that share this forest, including platypus, quolls, pademelons and birds. Guided tours of about 45 minutes are available throughout the day. Entrance fees apply. Tickets for cave tours and the thermal springs are available at the Hastings Caves Visitor Centre. Please arrive at the Visitor Centre at least 30 minutes before the advertised tour time. The swimming area is set in a lush forest glade surrounded by attractive picnic lawns and barbecue shelters with electric cooktops, fireplaces and tables. The change rooms have hot showers. Please note, barbecues turn off 30 minutes prior to site closure. Cave admission includes entry to the thermal pool and walks. Pets are not permitted.
