Waalmbal Birri Cultural Centre. AKA The Boathouse
Point of InterestDescription
Open from 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 1pm Saturday.
The Cultural Centre tells the history of Cooks 48 days in the Endeavour river and the interaction with the local indigenous clans.
The history is not well understood and the centre provides a beautiful understanding of this significant event.
Run entirely by volunteers the Centre relies on donations to keep this valuable piece of history alive.
If you are in Cooktown in June you can enjoy the reenactment of the 48 days which takes place every year.
