The Granites
Point of InterestDescription
Walk the 1.5km track to visit The Granites-
a small outcrop of granite rocks. Please respect the
cultural signincance or the area by not climbing the formations.
The rocky outcrops and sculpted boulders of The Granites hide many secrets. From belching mud springs to muddha (sacred) Budjiti sites, this granite formation is more than just a bump in the vast red plains of Currawinya.
Carving its way through the soils of Currawinya
National Park runs a 230 to 310 million-year-old
seam of granite, unearthed in places to expose
ancient rock formations. The seam is so deep that
it pierces the Great Artesian Basin below, creating a weak point for groundwater to force its way to
the surface.
