QANTAS idea formed here
Point of InterestDescription
While surveying the airstrips for the England to Australia Air Race in 1919, Paul McGuinness and Hudson Fysh met Fergus McMaster when he was stuck in mud in the dry river bed with a broken axel. While helping with repairs, McGuinness pitched his idea on an airline to link the isolated railhead towns of western Queensland. Thus the idea of QANTAS was formed. The first passenger flight landed at Cloncurry 3 November 1922. McMaster became Chairman and Fysh the Managing Director then Chairman.
