Batavia Gold Field Ruins
Point of InterestDescription
If you take the entrance to the right after the Wenlock river crossing on Portland road, then once in take the track to the right. The ruins are a little way in and it is definitely only for four wheel drives as there is sections of the track that are very narrow and in one section one side is washed out on one side leaving only enough room for a 4wd to drive though. Also sections that require some articulation so not suitable for low vehicles. Be carefulful where you walk as there are deep pits all through the bush as well as broken bottles everywhere (not from campers). But if you like to see the old mining machinery it is well worth the drive. There are some spots that you could unhitch a trailer if you did want to go for a drive through though.
