Description

The Amama day-use area is in Amamoor State Forest in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, about 180km north of Brisbane and 20km south-west of Gympie along the Amamoor Creek Road. The Amama day-use area is on Amamoor Creek Road, about 1km from the park entrance. Fire up a barbecue or lay out a picnic under the pines beside Amamoor Creek before strolling through the rainforest to a pretty waterfall. Toilets (flush). Wood-fired barbecue (wood supplied). Picnic tables (some sheltered). Stroll through rainforest along the Amama walk (1.5km circuit) to a pretty cascading waterfall set amongst moss-carpeted rocks. Cool off with a dip and keep an eye out for the colourful eastern yellow robin and the chatty grey fantail in the trees above. If you're lucky (and quiet), at dawn or dusk you may spot a platypus in Amamoor Creek. Shy and elusive, bubbles on the waters surface sometimes give them away. There are no wheelchair-accessible facilities. Dogs are permitted in Amama day-use areathey must be on a leash and under control at all times. Make sure you pick up your dogs faeces, carry it with you and dispose of it responsibly. No camping or overnight parking.
