Description

All roads to the Bunya Mountains are steep, narrow and winding. The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises that all access roads are unsuitable for travel by long and/or heavy vehicles. Discretion is urged with respect to caravans, large motorhomes and large buses. No fuel is available on the mountain. Camping permits are required and fees apply. You must obtain your permit before setting up camp. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site. Bookings can be made online, through the self-service kiosk at Dandabah. The maximum length of stay is 14 nights. Ticks are active all year in the Bunya Mountains and can cause serious illness or paralysis. Wear insect repellent and check yourself and children carefully for ticks. Westcott camping area is a small, semi-shaded grassy area suitable for tents only. It is located about 4.2 km north-west of the QPWS information centre. The camping area can be reached by conventional vehicle. It is not accessible for trailers, caravans, motorhomes or buses. Although the campground is accessible by car, it is not possible to drive onto the camp sites-parking is available only a short distance from each camp site. Sites are unpowered, there is an open area without separately defined sites for up to 30 people. Facilities include picnic tables, water (treat before drinking), toilets (hybrid system), fireplaces and firewood. Please note: this camping area does not have showers. Open fires are permitted in fireplaces only, except when fire bans or prohibitions apply. Please use wood sparingly and ensure your fire is out before you leave it-extinguish with water, not sand or dirt. Fuel or gas stoves are recommended. Generators and pets are not permitted. Mobile phone coverage is poor.
