Opalton is situated 123km from Winton. It is one of the largest opal fields in Queensland and is known for the quality of opal mined.
The Opalton Field is located about 124km south-west of Winton. From Winton, take the Jundah Road (mostly unsealed) and travel 15km, turn left and travel a further 109km (unsealed road) past Weona Homestead to Opalton. No food, drinks or fuel are available in Opalton. Please ensure you are fully stocked prior to your departure from Winton.
The Opalton community has established a bush camping park adjacent to the area. Visitors are able to camp at the Opalton Bush Park and try their luck in the public fossicking area.
Sites are unpowered and suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravans, motorhomes and big rigs. Facilities include shade shelters, water (non potable), flushing toilets and hot showers. A small fee applies. Cash only.
Pets are permitted.
