Lara Wetlands is a bush camping ground on a 15,000 acre cattle station south of Barcaldine. The Wetlands are permanently fed by a century old artesian bore with unpowered camping and no allocated sites around the Wetlands, you choose your own site. The water is shallow (no swimming) and perfect for viewing the birdlife via a complimentary kayak. The timber in the Wetlands has been there since 1908 and provides a wonderful habitat for over 127 species of birds.
This camping spot is on a working cattle station. If you are travelling with a pet it MUST be kept on a leash at all times. NO EXCEPTIONS. Generators may be used between 8-10am and 3-5pm ONLY. There is an all natural artesian thermal pool at Lara set at approx 38 degrees and four amenities blocks with flushing toilets, hot showers and a separate dump point.
It is an idyllic bush camp-spot that has abundant bird life & wildlife and is a photographers joy. Sunrise and Sunsets are just amazing with the reflections on the water.
There are unlimited tranquil shady unpowered campsites around the wetlands, that welcome all van sizes, motor homes and tents.
No need to book unless a large group of 6 or more vans.
Campers can have their own campfire (unless fire bans are in place). Firewood is available for purchase from the office. Pre-cut with kindling and ready to go OR byo.
