Description

Bridge to BottleHeap area provides a combination of camping and day-use sites and is the closest camping to town - two access points approximately 1.0 and 2.5 km from town - with easy access for all manner of vehicles. There are several sites of historical significance to Burketown, including the old bridge, the old crossing and Bottleheap. The old bridge was originally built in the 1900s and now provides an excellent day-use area with covered picnic tables, toilets and fishing straight off the bridge. The old crossing is a semi-natural rock-bar visible only on the lowest tides, with excellent fishing and beachfront. The Bottleheap area marks the entrance to The Loop, the original channel of the Albert River, which passed close to the eastern side of town. There are 10 unpowered campsites. All sites provide excellent shade and are only a short walk or drive to Council toilets found at the bridge end of the camp ground. Permits are required to camp, these can be purchased online. A maximum of 7 nights can be booked at the same campsite. Pets are permitted.
