Please note: a seasonal closure is currently in place for Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL). All access to the park is prohibited and on-the-spot fines apply.
Choose from a variety of shady camp sites overlooking this secluded lagoon on the Normanby River. 12 Mile Camping Area has 8 unpowered sites.
The sites are nestled among trees along both deep and shallow sections of the lagoon, and near the junction with the Laura River.
Camp site one has beautiful views overlooking the sandbar at the confluence.
Camping permits are required and fees apply. Display the tag with your booking number at your camp site
Site surface: dirt and grass (seasonal).
Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside car; camper trailer
Camp fires and generators are allowed. Generators must only be operated at less than 65dB(A), when measured 7m from the generator, and only between 8am and 7pm.
All camping areas are close to creeks, rivers, swamps and waterholes. Be aware that estuarine crocodiles occur in these areas. Be croc-wise in croc country.
There is no boat access from this site.
Toilets arent provided, move well away from camp sites, walking tracks and creeks, and use a trowel to bury waste at least 15cm deep. Bag all personal hygiene products including disposable nappies and take them away for appropriate disposal in rubbish bins.
Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL) is jointly managed by the Rinyirru (Lakefield) Aboriginal Corporation and the Queensland Government.
Domestic animals are not allowed.
