Description

The Walkabout Lodge is conveniently nestled between the Arafura Sea and the Gove town centre where you can visit cultural sites, catch up on your shopping to replenish your supplies or just relax. The Walkabout Lodge has 12 powered Camping Sites on the grounds available for campers exploring the region by four wheel drive during the dry season. These sites share a toilet and shower block and laundry facilities. Freshwater is also available at all campsites. Campers have access to all of the hotel's facilities. So you can enjoy a swim in our resort style swimming pool, dine in one of our restaurants or enjoy an icy-cold beer at the bar. Our campsites are very popular in the dry season, be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment. Nhulunbuy and its surrounding areas are Indigenous-owned private land, with the township, mine, refinery and other areas covered by a special lease. Permits are required to visit recreational areas and an alcohol permit system exists. To travel the Central Arnhem Road from the Stuart Highway via Bulman to Nhulunbuy requires a permit from the Northern Land Council (NLC) in advance. Permits can take up to two weeks to process. The road is not suitable for caravans or boat trailers and they are not permitted by the NLC, only sturdy off-road camper trailers. The NLC office in Nhulunbuy is contactable on (08) 8986 8500 and the Katherine office (08) 8971 9899.
