Glasshouse Rocks and Pillow Lava

Point of Interest

Description

Surf Beach, Narooma has two amazing sites of ancient geological significance and beauty at either end of the sandy beach. At the southern end lie the imposing Glasshouse Rocks; a photographers dream and recognised by the Geological Society of Australia as dating between 510 and 440 million years old. They are possibly the most photographed rocks along the Eurobodalla coastline rivalling the 12 Apostles. At the northern end of Surf Beach at the 'bar' is a stunning formation known as Australia Rock: another photographers dream and again a freak of nature forming from the remnants of volcanic activity hundreds of millions of years ago. No camping or overnight parking.
