Description

Collymongle bora ground is said to be typical of those found in central and north west New south Wales. The Collymongle bora rings extended around 300m in a north south direction. Most consisted of a large cleared circle (bora) and a smaller cleared circle (goonaba) connected with a pathway. The trees along the pathway and around the circles were carved with designs. Today of the eighty two known to have existed in 1944, only two live trees and one dead remain. Over the years the form of the bora ring became difficult to discern and the circles were grown over. The many other trees at this site may have been taken as souvenirs by collectors, rotted away or been burnt in bush fires. Nineteen trees were removed to museums in Victoria and Adelaide.
