Brewarrina Fish Traps
Point of Interest
Description
This site is a World Heritage listed site. The Brewarrina fish traps are estimated to be over 40,000 years old and one of the oldest man-made structures on earth.
Large aboriginal tribes would meet here and use rocks to build the fish traps so that fish could more easily be caught as they swam upstream. See photos for more details and a map of the area.
To learn more about the fish traps consider booking a guided tour at the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum. Guides will share the story of Baiames Ngunnhu - Fish Traps and how they came to be. Understand how the 8 nations come together to the shape the landscape as the 'Ngemba' people know it.
No camping or overnight parking allowed.
