CampgroundDescription
* no longer State Forest. Now administered by NPWS as part of Gardens of Stone SCA.
* Free bush camping There are no facilities. Campers must be self-sufficient. Take all rubbish with you and leave no trace. Access is via unsealed roads and 4x4 is recommended. *
This site was home to Newnes Plateau's old Forestry camp which was dismantled in the late 1990s/early 2000s. The site consisted of a home, a large gymnasium and kept grounds. It was home to the Ganger (+/- team) while the State Forest was under active, live in management through the 20th century.
Today, no buildings remain on site. There are some foundations still evident but most evidence of prior habitation have been removed.
Wildlife abounds on the Newnes Plateau and a range of native species can be found on a day to day basis. Also often seen are herds of feral horses and occasional wild dogs.
The area has been vandalised at times and would benefit from patrons taking home rubbish when they leave due to severely diminished resources by the State government in servicing the area.
Firewood collection is not allowed.
There are no toilet facilities at this site. If you do not have your own toilet, bury human waste at least 100m from tracks and water bodies. Bury toilet paper or bag and dispose of in a bin once you leave the site.
